The role of the Strategic Financing Advisory (SFA) team is to analyse the capital structure and the financing options available to our clients. Following a comprehensive analysis we advise our clients with regard to corporate financing in general as well as in the context of strategic decisions like M&A.
We seek to answer the question: "If I were the chief financial officer or treasurer, how would I finance this company and why?" SFA's analytical approach is driven by the fundamental principle that a company's business should drive its financing strategy, and not the reverse.
While our approach is product neutral, we work closely with different financing product teams to deliver solutions that can be successfully executed in the relevant financial markets.

SFA also provides ratings advisory services, for which HSBC Group has achieved #1 or #2 positions in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence over the past three years.
In a first time rating process we ensure that it can be completed quickly, successful, and in a well structured manner. We consider ourselves a sparring partner who develops the credit story with the client, emphasising the strengths but also considering the potential challenges of the credit profile. Within our maintenance rating advisory services we advise rated companies with regard to the ongoing communication with the rating agencies and offer ancillary services like debt capacity calculations or scenario analyses.
Our team has meaningful experience in ratings advisory, in-depth insight in rating agencies' methodologies as well as regular personal contact to the rating analysts.
